My goal
I want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, a phone or larger text. The aim is to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, the standard most websites are measured against.
What I do and check
- Every page can be used with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "skip to main content" link at the top.
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks and labels, so screen readers can announce them and move around them.
- Text and buttons have enough contrast, and the layout adapts to phones, tablets and enlarged text.
- Animations are reduced for people who set "reduce motion" on their device.
- Images have text alternatives, forms have labels and clear error messages, and the language of each page is set (English, Portuguese or Spanish).
- I check the main pages in all three languages with automated tools (Lighthouse and axe) and by hand with the keyboard.
What is not covered
This website has not been audited by an independent accessibility specialist, and I have not tested it with every combination of screen reader and browser, so some problems may remain.
The screenshots in my project case studies show other websites I built earlier; those sites may not meet the same standard. Websites I link to are outside my control.
Found a barrier?
Please write to franciscomfcavaco@gmail.com and tell me which page you were on and what went wrong. I take it seriously and will fix it, or explain why I cannot.
